Joaquin Dean Is Relaunching Ruff Ryders With Unusual Business Plan
















Inspired by his deep musical roots, Dean and his brother, Darrin, founded Ruff Ryders Entertaiment in 1988. From its Yonkers, N.Y. headquarters, the record label went on to launch the careers of DMX, Swizz Beatz, Eve, Jadakiss, Styles P and others, reaching its height in the late 1990s. Dean says the company raked in roughly $200 million in revenues over a ten-year period. In the meantime his nephew, the aforementioned Swizz Beatz, has become one of hip-hop’s most successful producers (and recently tied the knot with singer Alicia Keys).
